The Adams County
Historical Society will sponsor
a special trip to the National
Geographic Musuem in
Washington, D.C., to see the
Terra Cotta Warriors:
Guardians of China’s First
Emperor exhibit on Saturday,
March 20.
The self-guided exhibit
includes life-size clay figures
of soldiers, charioteers,
archers, musicians, generals,
and acrobats which were
buried in massive underground
pits to accompany China’s first
emperor, Qin Shihaungdi, into
the afterlife. The exhibit also
features treasures from the
tomb including weapons,
armor, and coins, to name a
few.
Lunch will be available at
Union Square Station where
participants can shop as well as
eat. At 1:30 p.m., the group
will head to the National
Building Museum. Built
between 1882 and 1887, the
historic home of the National
Building Museum stands today
as one of the great American
buildings of the 19th century
and one of Washington,
D.C.,’s most spectacular works
of public architecture. It is
more than just a repository of
“things” and visitors from
around the world have been
delighted with this unique
museum and given it rave
reviews.
The group will leave from
the Gettysburg Church of the
Brethren on Biglerville Road
at 7:30 a.m. and return at
approximately 5 p.m.
The fee for the trip is $75 for
Society members and $85 for
non-members.
Tickets may be purchased
