Please join us on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 7 P.M. to in Valentine Hall on the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg campus to learn about Gettysburg professional baseball players and the Blue Ridge League in “Gettysburg’s Boys of Summer” with a presentation local historian and award winning writer, James Rada, Jr.
Gettysburg is known for being the home of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank, but did you know that it also had a professional baseball team? The Gettysburg Patriots (and later Ponies) played in the pioneering Blue Ridge League against other teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. Unlike teams today that pay players millions of dollars a year, the pro players in the Blue Ridge League could not make a living playing the game they loved and this led to problems for the players and the league.
This program, sponsored by ACNB Bank, is free and open to the public.
